Warning: This blog post may cause confidence and empowerment!
Planning on making January 1st this brand new version of you? Yay, life! I’ll be right there with you and about 41% of other Americans. With the optimistic mind, I truly thought that number would be much higher. An even lower number of people succeed.. but guess how many of them believe they’ll succeed? A staggering 9.2%. But why?
I have a hunch that it’s because people make them based around their weaknesses instead of their strengths. We all want to be healthier, happier, save money, quit a vice, find love, get a new job, et cetera. Most things can be made into a strength if you look at it from your strengths. The only trick to that is to know what they are.
In 2014, I hit a not so gentle shift and decided to enlist the help of a trusted professional, a business and life coach named Jennifer M. Blair. To help me find the groove and guidance I was seeking, I took the Gallup Strengths Assessment and found that my top five strengths are futuristic, input, significance, activator and positivity.
Using my strengths I’ve successfully transitioned into the career that I wanted with social media management; which is lying the foundation the education to become a professor to end my career within the realm of academia.
I’ve used my strengths to empower me to stay on the path to grow and surround myself with others that do the same. One of the most important components of the assessment is that it gave me permission to be who I am.
We’re all conditioned to have the mentality that we need to “fix” things that are wrong with us based on our weaknesses. The reality is that we need to enhance our aspirations by focusing on our strengths. Our weaknesses are common as we all have them. Your strengths are things that you have within the genre of the five of the Gallup Strengths Assessment. Sure, others may have them but they won’t use them the same way you do. This is where you have to blaze the trail and glow your own way to accomplish the things you wish to in 2018.
If I hear about how stupid resolutions are one more time before the end of 2017, I may have to unleash some serious glitter on someone. Resolutions aren’t stupid. They’re not a display of weakness. Resolutions are brilliant aspirations that you’re making to grow; when you know growth is a requirement to living a full life, you’ll realize how important it is for you to challenge yourself every single day.
Challenging yourself to grow and go forward is revolutionary in your life, because if you’re not growing, you’re dying. Do not waste your time waiting to die. Spend it wisely and use it intentionally.
You’re not meant to live a stagnant existence. You’re meant to slay your fears, learn from great peers, and glow forward whilst focusing on what could be instead of what is. Whether your trail is blazed with fire from gumption and/or glitter; it’s your trail.
Keep on truckin. You can go and glow your own way, it’s the only way you’ll grow.
