In case you missed the memo, today is Valentine’s Day. It’s the day couples celebrate love. But if you’re single its National Singles Awareness Day and everything is hyper focused on roses, candy, and social media posts about how grand love is.
Truth be known, love is grand but it’s only grand if both people are in healthy spaces. So if you’re single, don’t focus just on how happy everyone is. Somewhere on earth there is a couple that is completely miserable because they’re incapable of having a healthy relationship due to their inability to love themselves first.
Special note for all my single lady friends, today is not doomed to be sad. Just get ready and get out of the house with your other single friends. Do a positive activity that will remind you of your personal greatness so you can appreciate yourself which is just as great as being in a couple.
If you think about it, the one thing that all of us have to have before we’re able to celebrate love with another person is love for ourselves.
Love is grand when shared with others but if you don’t love yourself then you truly can’t love anyone else.
On Valentine’s Day, or any other day, don’t forget that you must first love your selfie. Be kind and gentle with yourself. Love is a journey, not a destination.
