“I believe in mermaids. I never believed in Santa Clause or the Tooth Fairy, just mermaids. When I was a small child I can remember sitting in the bath tub asking my mother why my fingers wrinkled. She told me there were tiny mermaids that lived in the water. You couldn’t see them but they kissed your fingers and made them wrinkle. From then on I would scoop up my bath water in cupped hands and proclaim “I CAN’T FIND THEM! I CAN’T FIND THEM!” For some reason my family has instilled within my imagination stories of mermaids. I’m not sure the reason why, I don’t think they had a meeting about it or anything, it’s just how its always been.
To me a mermaid is a strong feminine creature. She represents independence, strength, love, and beauty. She is the power with in us all, the energy that drives us to do great things. To be a stay-at-home mom, a career driven woman, or any role you feel most proud take on in your life. The ferocity to even take on the world… or at least feel like you can. Every time I look at the women that surround me, I see all the lessons they’ve taught me and how they have helped shape me in to the proud mermaid I am today.”
