Ladies, our favorite time of the year has arrived! Football, pumpkin spice flavored everything, boots, bonfires, sweaters, comfy everything, your favorite shows are coming back on, and the crisp feeling of the air hits your face and goes into your lungs giving you the ultimate autumn natural high.
We’re all so pumped about it to the point where its flooding our Facebook feeds, Instgram posts, tweets, and if you’re on Periscope, you’re scoping the hell out of all of this. And I don’t blame you. I’m actually right there with you throwing glitter about all the things we love and it’s awesome. Actually, everything is awesome!
So awesome that you might even be commiting a crime. The crime is horrific and is becoming an epidemic. So horrible that I actually get squeamish just seeing it on my social media feeds. It just keeps popping up and we have to make it stop, or at least try!
What is this crime you’re wondering and I shall tell you. Brace yourself … Cardinal rule number one in girl code and self-love, you are NOT basic. Girls, you know who you are and where I’m going with this.
#Basic has over 1 million tags on Instagram. So that means over 1 million girls have used this hashtag and the organic reach of it is staggering. And over 82,000 of those are followed by #BasicWhiteGirl. Awful.
What makes pumpkin spice basic? It’s actually not and takes quite a few ingredients to create at home for a latte or your Pumpkin Spice Shakeo AND it is really delicious. Even if you purchase it at Starbucks because you’re a caffeine junkie and you love Starbucks, you’re still not basic. I love the smell, taste, and memories associated with it. What makes any of this #basic? Is it because a lot of women like it?
A lot of women desire equal rights, equal pay, equal respect, and equal acceptance with men but especially with other women. So are these women basic? If so I believe it makes every single woman you know #basic, regardless as to our individuality.
*Insert Sigh* Labeling sucks!
We’re more than #basic, ladies. We’re miracles that are hardworking, loving, living, dreaming, impacting, and most of us are light makers. If you’re not one yet, stay tuned because I will find you and make you smile while you throw glitter at the world or yourself.
Sad reality moment … Most of the people labeling others are also labeling themselves. Positive self-talk is one of the most important things you can do to love your #selfie! If you need a quick self-love talk example 101, check out this link.
You must stop saying mean things to yourself and others. Stop labeling others and yourself. LOVE yourself and others so much that all you get back is love.
When we label ourselves it makes it okay for others to do it. When we don’t love and respect ourselves, others won’t either.
“What you think is important, what you say is powerful, and who you choose to be is sacred.” – Alexis Jones #BeThatGirl
Mantra for the week:
You are important.
Your words are powerful.
You are sacred.
Do yourself a favor. Set that mantra as a reminder to your phone for each morning this week so every morning you wake up with the gentle reminder that you’re a phenomenonal woman (or man). Start your day off right with a daily dose of glitter.
Don’t forget to spread glitter to everyone you know, see, and follow on social media. #BeThatGirl instead. Be a light maker.
