“Seeing is believing …”
When I was younger and less experienced in life I believed that this phrase was only used by people that had little to no faith at all or that the person who believes this must be sad if they lack the creativity to believe in meaning of the words. I was also raised to do what I say I will do and to believe people are honest. But as we grow up our world expands a little and we realize that not everyone is raised with the same values or ethics.
I came to a realization within the last few months that not everyone means it when they say they will treat you well, be kind to you or even love you forever. Or at least they may not mean it in the literal sense that I do / did when I’ve said the same words. What is it about word’s that makes us connect with others? Is it the romance in following the story behind their words? Is it psychological processes that make words have more meaning with us than they do to others? Can words be bent and shaped to fit one life and the experiences of that person so the words have different meaning from person to person? If this is the case why do we have a dictionary? Why do we learn what the meaning if it can be changed by each person that knows and uses the word’s? Believing the words is a powerful thing that I don’t care to give up; interpretations can vary but the core of the definitions should never change.
The reality of reading the words can be the thing that you needed to see. Hearing the words can only take you to a superficial depth because of the new definitions created by each person. Reading someone’s words can give you the visual your mind needed for closure, for seeing in terms of the heart is believing; whether that view gives you pleasure or pain it is needed.
