Did you know that October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month? It’s estimated that 1 in every 4 women will experience some form of domestic violence in their lifetime. Even though an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of domestic violence each year, most cases go unreported to law enforcement. While 85% of domestic violence victims are women, it’s important for all people to know how to help someone in an abusive relationship or situation find help.
Domestic Violence Awareness is represented by the color purple. Wear purple to express your solidarity with survivors of domestic violence and their families and take a stand against violence. Paint the country purple for #PurpleThursday. For more information about how you can get involved or get support, visit National Network to End Domestic Violence.
