“I’ll just be hanging around the mistletoe, hoping to be kissed.”
Great quote from Love Actually and one that I can recall. While I’ve spent a great deal of my adult life in a serious relationship and now a loving marriage. But the holidays bring a reminder of a life that once was.
I remember pining over the idea that I was single. Granted it was a choice I made to be single for a bit while I explored my career, health, and personal goals to find out what I want and need in life. It was wild to explore those things because it was a new concept to me at that time.
I needed to find someone to help me find myself so I could find my way. Please note my faith guided me through the darkest moments in life but I never took the time to get to know myself. I was always consumed with what the people in my life needed from me that I didn’t know what I actually needed for myself.
So how did I find my way?
It may be an arguable topic because we’re never to our destination because it’s fleeting. Once we arrive into a space that we planned to get to, the desire to evolve will consistently linger in the air. Like the smell of a campfire in your hair, you’re going to have to take next steps for self-care to continue your stride.
If you’re married, dating, or single you have to keep your heart and mind open and express them in a healthy and conducive manner. Communication in ANY relationship is imperative because your ability to communicate with any human being on earth can be kept alive or expire based on your ability and desire to have conversations about everything that both people are feeling and experiencing.
However, it’s not a guarantee. Stats are stacked up against you from the moment you’re with someone. The newness factors can wear off, a conflict can arise and a lot of pain can begin to fester and resentment comes sliding in and will ruin the relationship.
But it’s not all bad. All of this may sound like a huge amount of work and to be honest, it is. But I have to confess; I’m really excited for my second Christmas with my husband.
If you need me, I’ll be hanging around the mistletoe with him.
xoxo
