While most Beliebers know the words to this song and may possibly cite it as the title, I must tell you that this blog post isn’t representative of the heart torn words that fill that song with enough metaphors to make even the most narcissistic human being on earth feel emotional pang with a second guess about their actions; even if only for a second.
But it’s not the focus, stress is.
“Stress has been characterized as a physiological demand placed on the body when one must adapt, cope or adjust with situations (Nevid & Rathus, 2003). Longstanding research has noted that stress has an impact on both physical and mental health (APA, 2012). Recent statistics from the American Psychological Association’s 2012 Stress in America survey indicate that 39% of Americans reported that their stress had increased over the past year. More alarming, only 29% reported that they were doing an ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’ job at managing their stress.” – Psychology Today
I must say, I’m not one that handles high levels of it. I internalize everything and I just keep going. Who has time to only focus on those bad things? In a world where I battle illness, work 24/7, and attempt to be friends to the people that build me up. I view stress as a natural thing. Who isn’t stressed about one thing? We can all be stressed, it only matters how we handle it.
Stress doesn’t have to be a negative thing. We only make it that way when we victimize the impact instead of owning it. Owning it consists of saying it someone else. Much like smiling’s placebo effect to the brain to make it feel happy, saying it outloud will make you feel a huge release.
An unintended impact from stress is the educational experience you’re learning from overcoming the things that used to shake the ground you walk on. Being stressed will make you much more head-strong for the next challenge that you have to face.
And lets face it, you’ve got a billion other things that will cause you stress till the day you expire.
